Signal Lost = 4. The Kickoff
After some in-character background among the Icthians, the book proper begins with Davik's attempt to rescue his brother from cryo-prision. This fails for reasons. Did you enjoy this intro to the two main characters? Was it just a pathetic meet-cute? How did it work for you?

I couldn't decide if the idea of a cryo prison was inspired or crazy - I have always assumed that part of the purpose of prison was to force the prisoner to feel the passage of wasted time, whereas by definition this totally fails in that purpose. But if the idea is to dislocate the prisoner so they cannot just go back to their old associates then maybe it makes sense.
Certainly the break-out-the-prisoner-but-drat-it's-the-wrong-one idea was a nice way to start the book. And how else were our two going to meet, given the separation of their home times?
